QUILT TOP COMPLETE

DOUBLE WEDDING RING
KING SIZE QUILT TOP COMPLETE

I have been working on this for almost a year now.

Friends of ours are going to be getting married in November of 2011; I wanted to make sure it was done in plenty of time. But in all honesty, I really did not expect the top alone to take an entire year.

I realize it is not a great picture and does not show the entire quilt; but it is cold here today and I did not want to fiddle with the clothesline, wind and cold. So the bed had to suffice.

I really learned a lot doing this pattern. The first and foremost important is that with this type of pattern.....YOU MUST cut each and every single piece precisely. It just does not go together (at least for me) properly with one edge a little longer and the other side not quite wide enough. Hee-Hee, I thought in the cutting out stage.....take a tad bit of a piece short to ensure their was enough. I managed to get the problems solved to a degree, but with a lot of extra work and far to many puckers or stretching.

Another great lesson I learned with this pattern....is not all patterns work wonderfully with scraps unless it is totally prepared step by step. It turned out fine, but there are numerous areas where the same pieces are used together and it really takes away from the focus of the rings themselves. At least my eyes, go instantly to those sections and I instantly ask myself what I was thinking. So, lesson learned....I like the scrap look....but next time it will be done one step at a time from cutting , laying it out, pinning it and sewing it one circle at a time per say.

This learning issue is one I will have to really consider before starting a huge project like this is that it is time consuming and has a grand tendency towards becoming depressing. I know I was thrilled with anticipation at trying my hand at this project. But each step just seemed to take up more and more time, pulling me away from the joy that I usually get with each step of a project. A good example, as I was thrilled to have it completely sewn together and laying it across the bed to photo; the thought of NOW I HAVE TO MAKE A BACK FOR THIS AND QUILT IT AND BIND IT...

Will have to continue another time....company just showed up. Have a great day!
