Scrap Quilt for 100 Quilts for Kids

My 4 patch quilt blocks were made entirely from my scrap stash.  I try and keep all of my stash cut to various sized blocks and organized in small see through totes.  I chose a variety of green 6 inch squares and off white 6 inch squares.  After sewing them all together it was time to choose a backing fabric.

 

 

At first I was going to do a total scrappy strip pieced back, but I came across this neon yellow (the photo is not a true color at all) with black and the gray skulls.  LOL.  Since I really wanted to do a quilt for a teenaged boy, I thought this would be perfect.  I am not positive, but I think my friend Maureen gave this to me after she had made a quilt for a grandson.  I did not have enough for each of the 20 4 patch blocks, so I found some black and am doing a quilt as you go method.  I plan on using black strips on the front and if I have enough I will use the skull fabric as strips on the back.  I am a tad bit disappointed in myself.  I really had wanted to have 3 or 4 quilts finished for a charity in town here.  But life gets in the way and I will be happy to at least contribute this one and then throughout the year make some more for next years 100 Quilts for Kids.

I also want to share my newest garage sale find....yes a clear plastic shoe storage bag.  It was under a dollar and I was able to empty out 2 huge totes filled with scraps.  Even though I try and cut down my scraps at the time I am cutting fabric for a quilt or project, I do not always succeed, as you can tell.  But I am hoping that with them hanging right in plain view it will motivate me to cut at least one pocket with each project I have to cut out.  But who knows how that will go.  LOL.  Loads and loads of quilt blocks can be made with all of these scraps.  So what do you think?  What storage method do you use to help motivate you?
